Why do I need to be saved?
You may say to yourself, “I don’t
feel like I need to be saved. I’m a good person and treat people right.”
But you cannot stop there. While the Bible does encourage us to do good
works, it also says “we ALL have sinned and come short of
the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). And that “there is NONE
that doeth good; no, not one” (Romans 3:12). That’s right…none
of us are good. Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden, and that sin has been
passed down to each of us. You did not become a sinner when you first
sinned. You sinned your first sin because you were born a sinner. Have
you ever told even a little white lie? Ever thought something that was
not very nice? Friend, if you have broken just one of God’s laws, then
that makes you worthy of death and eternal separation from God in hell.
You could never do anything to change that or pay for the sins you have
committed. Romans 6:23 tells us “For the wages of sin is
death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our
Lord”. You need a savior!
Who can help me?
This is where love in its purest
form is displayed. Before this world was ever formed and man ever sinned,
God had a plan to save you. His justice called for you to be punished for
your sin; but His mercy answered when He sent His only son Jesus to become
a sacrifice for your sins on a hill called Calvary. It was there that He
was crucified on a cross for your sins and mine. The Bible says in
II Corinthians 5:21
“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might
be made the righteousness of God in him.” Jesus actually took the
punishment for your sins upon Himself so that you can be forgiven of all
the bad things you have done. He will give you His righteousness to
“wear”. So when God sees you, He will not see your sin—He will see His
Son. That means we do not have to spend eternity in hell. But it does
not stop there. Jesus died on the cross, was placed in a borrowed tomb,
and three days later rose up out of that tomb to live forevermore! His
resurrection means that we can live forever with Him!
What will it cost me?
Not a penny. The cost of your
salvation was paid for by Jesus Christ. But in order to obtain this
salvation, you must do a few simple things. These are known as the
ABC’s of Salvation:
Acknowledge you are
a sinner. You were born a sinner; you have lived as a sinner; and you
will die as a sinner. There is nothing you can do to change that.
Believe in Jesus
Christ—His death, burial, and resurrection! Believe that He did it all
for you! Ask Him to forgive you of your sins and accept Him as your
savior. Then settle in your heart and mind that you will live your life
following Him and His word.
“For God so loved the world,
that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him,
should not perish but have everlasting life” John 3:16.
Confess Jesus as
being your Lord and Savior. Find someone and share with them what Jesus
has done for you.
“For whosoever shall call upon
the name of the Lord shall be saved” Romans 10:13.
If you are not sure what to pray
or how to pray, speak these words from your heart:
Heavenly Father, I
know that I am a sinner and admit my need for a savior. I believe you
sent your Son Jesus to die on the cross to pay for my sins. And I believe
He rose from the tomb three days later to live forever. Please save me.
Forgive me of all my sins and make me one of your children. I accept what
Jesus did for me on the cross and the salvation you offer me. I promise
to forsake my sins and live for you the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name I
pray. Amen.
